Why only three
The number is the whole idea.
In Anita's words: "I'll have all the time in the world to spend with the children, as I'll have only three."
A center down the road can take your six-week-old, and it will do so competently. What it cannot do is give that baby the same pair of hands every hour of every day, because no center is staffed that way — rooms change, shifts change, and children graduate from one room to the next.
Three children with one caregiver removes all of that. There is no ratio to manage, no room transition at eighteen months, no new face at three o'clock. For the six-week-old, that continuity is the service.
It also means the answer to "do you have space?" is a simple yes or no, and it can become no at any time.
